Battlefield 2042 has revealed some key aspects of its upcoming sixth season named Dark Creations. Approaching its two-year anniversary, Battlefield 2042 had struggled to find is footing after a disappointing 2021 launch during a Fall season populated with strong FPS competitors like Call of Duty: Vanguard and Halo Infinite.

Due to a solid amount of seasonal support over the past two years along with some vital changes, sentiment surrounding Battlefield 2042 has somewhat improved. Since release, it had reworked almost all its launch maps, including the highly requested Hourglass, and has replaced its controversial specialist system with the return of the franchise’s popular class-based system earlier this year. While Battlefield 2042 is still receiving regular updates, EA may be looking elsewhere for the future of Battlefield, as it’s rumored to have several new titles in the works across its internal studios, including DICE.

Season 6 of Battlefield 2042 was first teased all the way back in early June. Since the end of Season 5 in late August there had been a bit of a gap of significant new content for Battlefield 2042 players to enjoy, until now. On Twitter, Battlefield 2042 announced its sixth season, called Dark Creations, which will begin on October 10. The season will introduce a new close quarters combat map along with new weapons, gadgets, and horror-themed battle pass items, perfect for the Halloween season. A gameplay trailer, which will likely contain more information about Season 6, is scheduled to drop on October 5.

Many Battlefield fans under the video expressed confusion over whether the new season will introduce some sort of PvE zombies experience, as the cinematic depicts a group of operators battling what look like undead soldiers. However, these soldiers were also firing back with weapons of their own, so it’s more likely that they’re merely undead skins being offered in the battle pass or in Battlefield 2042‘s in-game store.

Season 6 of Battlefield 2042 isn’t the only online FPS getting in on the horror action this month, as Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2‘s The Haunting event is set to kick off just one week after Battlefield’s new season on October 17. With rumors swirling of Ubisoft’s XDefiant also eyeing the 17th for its full launch, Battlefield 2042 will once again have to deal with some big competition. Battlefield fans should expect to learn more about Season 6 in the coming days as October 10 approaches.

Battlefield 2042 is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S.
