Epic Games has confirmed that age ratings are coming to Fortnite Creative levels. Fortnite added Creative mode in 2018, and since then, players have made countless experiences, which may be age-restricted in the future.
Fortnite isn’t the only game to include Creative, as Minecraft, Roblox, and No Man’s Sky feature their own versions of the game mode. Epic Games has improved Fortnite Creative through updates, with Creative 2.0 bringing tons of content to the editor in 2023. Using Fortnite Creative mode players have made escape rooms, death runs, and Impostors which borrowed from Among Us. While there are many of these levels that Fortnite players can explore now, they may see a big change in the near future.

Age restrictions are coming to Fortnite Creative experiences on October 16 through an IARC content rating questionnaire. The answers to the IARC questions will generate a content age rating which may limit who can access the Creative level in the future. These age restrictions follow guidance from ratings boards around the world like the ESRB and PEGI. To validate the IARC form, a Fortnite moderator will review and publish the material, ensuring that Epic Games can catch ones that don’t match the answers that were given. Any Fortnite Creative levels that haven’t been rated via the IARC questionnaire will be delisted on November 14.
The time frame between the implementation of the IARC form and its deadline leaves Fortnite Creative fans with less than a month to prevent their levels from being delisted. Because multiple Fortnite Creative experiences can be made by one player, this may leave some fans with multiple questionnaires to fill out. These age restrictions are part of Epic Games’ commitment to building a metaverse that’s “safe and fun for everyone.” Once generated, the age ratings applied to Fortnite Creative levels will be region-specific, which may affect how they’re found in alternative regions. These changes might also impact how Fortnite currently recommends Creative maps and modes in the game mode menu.
Because some Fortnite experiences may not be suitable for all ages, implementing these age restrictions could help prevent harmful content from reaching kids. Given that these age ratings will be applied to all Fortnite Creative content, the standard is being applied equally across the community. This change may also improve the algorithm for recommending the right experiences for different demographics. Although the Fortnite Creative questionnaire has a deadline date, it’s currently unclear if the restrictions will be applied immediately.
Fortnite is available now for mobile, PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
