The new Pokemon Scarlet and Violet update has added a game-breaking bug that can ruin the final battle for players. The adventures in Paldea continue, as Pokemon Scarlet and Violet keep getting updates, bringing new characters and Pokemon into the mix.
Last month Pokemon players saw the release of the long-awaited DLC The Teal Mask. In the first Pokemon Scarlet and Violet DLC, players travel to the Kitakami region and unravel the mysteries behind stories passed down by the local population over the years. Pokemon players also welcomed new pocket creatures like Poltchageist, Okidogi, and Pokemon from other generations like Ekans, Hoothoot, Lotad, and Kirlia. The Teal Mask offers new activities such as the Ogre Oustin’ minigame, the Timeless Woods side quest, and new mass outbreak events. But a bug can compromise players’ gameplay at a crucial moment in the new Pokemon Scarlet and Violet DLC.

Twitter user mattyoukhana_ discovered a bug that makes Pokemon Scarlet and Violet crash during the battle against the Paradise Protection Protocol. The bug appeared after the release of Scarlet and Violet‘s 2.0.1 update and happens if the player has Koraidon/Miraidon registered in the Pokedex, and hovers over the team’s fourth, fifth, or sixth slot. Mattyoukhana_ replicated the bug in a video showing how if the player follows these steps, the game will instantly crash. But the player also offered two alternative solutions to the problem, one of them being to go into battle with a team of three Pokemon. The second alternative solution to avoid the bug is to move up instead of down and reach the legendary slot.
Pokemon Scarlet and Violet players were confused by how the bug requires such specific elements to be triggered. Some players speculated it might be related to the Indigo Disk DLC, the second part of the Hidden Treasure of Area Zero expansion pass. These players theorize that some code in preparation for the release of the second DLC may include a type of party restriction, and therefore may conflict with the Teal Mask codes. So far it hasn’t been confirmed whether this is the source of the bug.
This isn’t the first time Pokemon Scarlet and Violet players have run into bugs since the release of the Teal Mask DLC. Previously, the Kitakami Ogre Clan side quest had a bug, compromising players’ progress. A few days later Game Freak fixed the bug, saving players from further headaches. To date, Game Freak hasn’t addressed the Paradise Protection Protocol bug. Because of this, Pokemon Scarlet and Violet players may want to follow the necessary steps to avoid jeopardizing their progress while waiting for an official fix.
Pokemon Scarlet and Violet are available now on Nintendo Switch.
