  • The original Last of Us games have been re-released multiple times, with a remaster for the PS4 and a full-blown remake for the PS5, indicating a potential similar treatment for The Last of Us 2.
  • There is a possibility of The Last of Us 2: Remastered coming to PC, as Sony has shown a commitment to bringing more PlayStation exclusives to the platform, but it is important to avoid the same issues experienced in the PC launch of The Last of Us Part 1.

A new leak suggests that Naughty Dog’s award-winning game The Last of Us 2 could be coming to the PlayStation 5 at some point in the near future. The Last of Us 2 launched on the PS4 in 2020, earning rave reviews from critics, though some story beats proved controversial with hardcore fans of the franchise.

Sony and Naughty Dog have re-released the original Last of Us games multiple times. This included a Last of Us remaster that brought the PS3 game to the PS4, plus a full-blown remake called The Last of Us Part 1 that saw Ellie and Joel’s grim adventure remade for the PS5. Now it seems that The Last of Us 2 could be getting a similar treatment, as there is evidence to suggest that the game could be getting remastered for Sony’s newest hardware.

As discovered by Insider Gaming, Naughty Dog Lead Outside Artist Mark Pajarillo made mention of the unannounced Last of Us 2: Remastered on his LinkedIn profile, though it has since been updated to remove any mention of the game. Pajarillo’s profile didn’t provide any other details about what The Last of Us 2: Remastered might entail or when it could release. However, one has to assume that the game will be coming to PS5 at the very least, and a PC port shouldn’t be ruled out either.

Sony brought The Last of Us to PC through The Last of Us Part 1, with the PC port of the game coming out some odd months after the PS5 version released. Sony has made it clear that it plans on bringing more of its PlayStation exclusives to PC, and so Last of Us 2 coming to PC is a matter of when, not if. While many would likely be satisfied if the PS4 version of the game was ported to PC, a remaster with improved graphics and other potential enhancements could make the game even more appealing to PC gamers.

If The Last of Us 2: Remastered does exist, and it does come to PC, then hopefully it avoids making the same mistakes as the previous game. The Last of Us Part 1 on PC launched with multiple issues that dragged the experience down for PC gamers. Post-launch updates patched things up, but it was still disappointing for many PC gamers that the game launched in a much worse state than its PS5 counterpart.

Time will tell if The Last of Us 2: Remastered is real or not, but there should be plenty more for fans of the franchise to look forward to in the years ahead. Even though The Last of Us multiplayer game is reportedly running into some serious problems, Naughty Dog is rumored to be working on The Last of Us 3, while HBO is prepping a second season of The Last of Us TV series.

The Last of Us 2: Remastered is rumored to be in development.
